Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho, asserted on Friday that his return to Nigeria was by the grace of God, as he accused former President Muhammadu Buhari of orchestrating an assassination attempt against him.
Speaking to his followers in Oyo State, Igboho claimed that Buhari deployed the Department of State Services (DSS) and soldiers to eliminate him in his residence, attributing the alleged assassination plot to his advocacy against the killings of farmers by Fulani herders in the Southwest.
In his words: "Buhari sent his soldiers and DSS to arrest me in my house because I said Yorubas are not slaves to Fulanis, they can't suppress us in our father's land. Fulanis can't stop our fathers and mothers from going to their farms. But, I'm back with the power of God and authority not that of man."
Igboho's return to Nigeria occurred on Thursday, preceding his mother's burial in the Saki area of Oyo State. He had been absent from Nigeria since 2021 when he sought refuge in Benin Republic after being declared wanted by the DSS.
Following an invasion of his residence by the DSS in the Soka area of Oyo State, Igboho managed to evade arrest. The DSS had issued a warrant for his arrest due to his activism for the Yoruba Nation and his alleged involvement in attacks against Fulani herders accused of perpetrating violence against farmers in the Southwest.
While in Benin Republic, Igboho was apprehended and detained while attempting to travel to Germany. However, he recently regained his freedom after spending two years in a Beninese prison.
