Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has denounced the call by an unidentified Islamic cleric for the killing of President Bola Tinubu's wife, Oluremi Tinubu, terming it as condemnable.
Sani emphasized the importance of expressing dissent towards the government and its policies within the confines of the law.
The Islamic cleric, whose identity remains unknown, had made inflammatory remarks suggesting that Oluremi Tinubu, being a pastor, should face death.
In a widely circulated video, the cleric criticized the Muslim/Muslim ticket that facilitated Bola Tinubu's rise to power, labeling it as deceitful. He contended that according to the Quran, Mrs. Tinubu, as an infidel, should be executed.
"God's judgment says she must be killed. She's a pastor, a leader of infidels (Christians); Allah says they must be killed," the cleric asserted, without providing any scriptural reference.
In response, Sani condemned the cleric's remarks, underscoring that while criticizing the government and its policies is a democratic right, inciting violence or calling for the killing of individuals is unacceptable and reprehensible.
"Calling for the killing of Senator Remi Tinubu by the religious cleric is unacceptable and utterly condemnable," Sani expressed on X.
Oluremi Tinubu serves as an assistant pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
