The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has revealed that only a fraction of its members has received a portion of their withheld salaries from the Federal Government. ASUU's National President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed the development to Channels Television on Monday, stating that they are still in the process of gathering data on the payments.
Osodeke disclosed that while the government claims to have initiated payments, only a few members have received two months' worth of salary.
This revelation follows President Bola Tinubu's approval in October 2023 to release four out of the eight months' worth of withheld salaries owed to ASUU workers.
The salaries were initially withheld during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who invoked a 'No Work, No Pay policy' against certain university-based unions that engaged in an eight-month strike in 2022..
ASUU continues to monitor the situation closely as efforts persist to ensure all affected members receive their owed salaries in a timely manner.
