Bayern Munich's unwanted Champions League match versus Lazio produced unwelcome history.
Bayern was hoping to recover from their humiliating 3-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday by defeating Lazio on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
However, Ciro Immobile's penalty to seal the home team's 1-0 victory left Thomas Tuchel's team dumbfounded at the Stadio Olimpico.
Dayot Upamecano, a defender for Bayern, was also dismissed for a careless challenge that set up Immobile's game-winning penalty.
OptaJoe disclosed that Bayern had broken an unpleasant record following the game.
They posted on social media, saying: "This is the most shots by any side in a UEFA Champions League fixture on record (from 2003-04) without one being on target. Bayern Munich had 17 shots against Lazio this evening, but none were on target."
"We're frustrated and angry about the defeat," a disgruntled Tuchel stated in remarks made following the game. Although I'm not positive Lazio won, I believe we lost.
"We made mistakes and lost confidence, doing everything we could to lag behind. Upamecano didn't need to enter in that manner. It's not wild or intentional - but just block the shot."
He added: "We started well, had a chance in the first minute and then with Harry Kane and then with Jamal Musiala. We had the game under control in the first half.
"But in the second our performance dropped inexplicably. We made too many individual errors and made our opponents stronger, ger and we lost concentration. We lost our rhythm. It was completely our responsibility. We lost a game today that in the first half looked like we could not lose it."
