The top goalscorer in the just concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Emilio Nsue has been suspended indefinitely from his national team. The 34-year-old Intercity striker had claimed the golden boot in the 2023 AFCON tournament after netting five goals in four appearances for Equatorial Guinea. In a statement issued on the organization's official website, the Equatoguinean Football Federation disclosed that the captain was suspended for breaching disciplinary rules and will therefore not be involved in any national team duties until further notice.
This decision was taken after the board of the country's federation met at the headquarters in Malabo this week as reported by BBC.
Alongside midfielder Ivan Salvado, Nsue's punishment is for incurring in 'several episodes of serious indiscipline before and after participating in the National Seleccion in the 34th Edition of the African Cup of Nations'.
