Super Eagles' Nwabali Receives Warning to Stay Away from South Africa After Heroic AFCON Performance

According to a report, Stanley Nwabali, the goalkeeper for the Super Eagles, has purportedly received warnings from South Africans urging him not to return to his club in the country. Nwabali currently serves as the first-choice goalkeeper for Chippa United in the South African Premier Soccer League. Former Super Eagles star, Idah Peterside, mentioned during an interview on Channels TV that he had been informed about threats directed at Nwabali, advising him to stay away from South Africa due to his role in preventing goals during a game. Although no acts of violence have been reported, the threats made towards Nwabali and others are considered unacceptable.

Nigeria secured victory over South Africa in the semi-final of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), held at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake. Despite a one-all draw, the Super Eagles clinched a 4-2 win in the penalty shootout, with Nwabali emerging as the man of the match after saving two penalties during the game.

Prior to the semi-final encounter between Nigeria and South Africa, cautionary advice was issued to Nigerians residing in South Africa, warning against excessive celebrations if the Super Eagles emerged victorious.
