Africa benefits greatly from low levels of corruption, as seen by increased public services, social stability, economic growth, and international cooperation. In addition to directly benefiting the countries, anti-corruption initiatives help advance the continent's general growth and well-being. Some countries on the continent are well aware of these facts and have done an exceptional job in keeping their corruption index low.
According to Transparency International, a global movement working in over 100 countries to end the injustice of corruption, "both authoritarian and democratic leaders are undermining justice. This is increasing impunity for corruption, and even encouraging it by eliminating consequences for criminals."
The organization notes that across the globe, bribery, and power abuse are two more corrupt practices that are permeating many courts and other legal organizations.
Many countries in the world are currently trying to curb these issues, with Western Europe and the European Union doing the best job at this.
Africa on the other hand struggles with this issue, scoring the lowest average, with democracy and the rule of law under pressure.
However, some countries on the continent stand out as a beacon of hope. These countries have very low corruption indexes and are amongst some of the least corrupt countries in the world, according to Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI).
The CPI evaluates 180 nations and territories based on perceived levels of public sector corruption, with scores ranging from 0 (very corrupt) to 100 (extremely clean).
