Electronics and valuable documents worth millions were lost in a fire incident at a two-storey building in Kwata junction, Awka, Anambra State capital.
The incident occurred on Tuesday and affected the roof of the structure, which housed multiple offices.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the entire building could have been engulfed by the flames if not for the prompt response of firefighters who arrived at the scene swiftly.
Engr Martin Agbili, the State Fire Chief, confirmed the incident, emphasizing that there were no casualties. The inferno was attributed to a power surge. Agbili highlighted the importance of early fire calls, stating, "Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call of a fire outbreak at a plaza (Valuation House) of a two-storey building at Kwata Junction, and in front of the Ministry of Agriculture, which is housing different offices."
He further explained, "The fire, which emanated from the roof of the building, affected the roof, some electronics, and some documents. We were able to save the entire building (plaza). It is important to know that early fire calls will always determine the response time of the fire service to any fire incident."
