A man has reportedly divorced his wife after she refused to contribute financially to their household responsibilities, despite him sponsoring her through school and establishing a business for her.
The heartbreaking story was shared on social media by a user known as @budgetOdogwu, revealing what led to the dissolution of the union.
The man, who is an oil worker, and his wife tied the knot during a period when he served as a bank staff, and she pursued a nursing degree.
The union produced twins, and the man, with his earnings, single-handedly shouldered the financial responsibilities of the family.
According to @budgetOdogwu, the husband went above and beyond by sponsoring his wife's education and even setting up a business for her.
However, the trouble began when the husband noticed that his wife was unwilling to contribute financially to the running of their home.
@budgetOdogwu reported that the man confronted his wife, only to be met with a blunt response.
The wife allegedly stated that he should not have married her if he couldn't afford to take care of her, emphasizing that all the money used in the household was from his single salary at Shell, where he had transitioned to work.
"All the money used was from his single salary at Shell. This man talked about it for a while how she didn't even bother bringing anything home and she retorted that he was a Shell worker and he shouldn't have married her if he couldn't take care of her."
"This egbon never forgot those words..." @budgetOdogwu wrote.
In response to his wife's stance, the husband took matters into his own hands. Secretly acquiring properties over time, he managed to build two houses before initiating divorce proceedings.

@Dapostweet said; "Marriage is ideally a union where two folks merge in understanding, goals, teachings, & purpose. "It seems plausible that the "egbon" had discussions on these matters during their dating period."Based on this thread, it appears the wife didn't fulfill the role of a "helpmate."
@rappo_oosa said; "I will forever respect my wife on this!!! Things hasn't really been good for me for a while now and my wife has been the one supporting me from the proceeds she makes from her business. I do not praise her in her presence but I will forever respect her. Her presence is godsend."
