Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa says AFCON is not about beauty or technique in reaction to comments made by Ghana's Andre Ayew.
Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has reacted to comments made by Ghana's Andre Ayew about football in the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
Ayew believes that CAF's elite football fiesta, the AFCON, is more difficult than the FIFA World Cup and the Nigerian skipper has supported the claim.
Ayew's comments on AFCON
Ghana's Black Stars have started the AFCON 2023 on a shaky note after one defeat and a draw in their opening two matches.
According to a report by Modernghana, the Ghanaian forward says that AFCON is the hardest tournament.
"This tournament is even harder than the World Cup," Ayew stated. "We know that it is the hardest tournament, for me, when it comes to fighting, determination, and energy."
Following the comments by the former Marseille man, Nigeria's Musa agreed with his Ghanaian counterparts after he was asked about his reaction.
Musa's Reaction
Speaking during an interview with Sienu TV, per Modernghana, Musa says AFCON is not about beauty.
"Yes, definitely, I agree with him because in African football, it is not all about the beauty of the game," the Super Eagles forward said.
"It is more about the hard game and aggression," the former Al Nassr and Leicester City forward added.
"In the World Cup, you have to use technique but in African football, nobody cares about technique - they just do their best to make it hard."
Musa, 31, continues to play an active role in the Nigeria national team after helping the Super Eagles qualify for the AFCON 2023 in Cote d'Ivoire.
He won the AFCON in 2013 and was a part of the Super Eagles team that finished third in the 2019 edition.
