The 20-year-old Spain International, who gauned promotion to the Manchester United first-team squad back in 2022 is yet to break into the starting lineup over the past few seasons.
The young left-back was sent out on loan to Preston North End during the 2022/2023 season where he recorded a total of six assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.
Alvaro Fernandez returned to Manchester United last summer before he was sent out on another loan move to Granada where he he has been quite involved so far this season, making 14 appearances in all competitions.
His excellent performances while on loan is believed to have caught the attention of Benfica and according to reports from popular transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his verified Twitter page, the Portuguese side want to sign him.
The reports further claimed that Benfica are really interested in the young Alvaro Fernandez and are already in talks with Manchester United football club over a move for the left-back.
It is believed that Manchester United manager wants the young Alvaro Fernandez to play regular first-team football and he is interested in loaning him out to Benfica this month.
But with the talks currently ongoing, it remains to be seen if Alvaro Fernandez will continue the rest of the season on loan at Granada or Benfica will reach an agreement to sign him on loan before the January transfer window closes.
