Belgian Playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has shared how he met his wife in what he terms an embarrassing story.
Manchester City attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed interesting details on the awkward way he got to meet his wife.
The Belgian international had his heart shattered when his ex-girlfriend Caroline Lijnen cheated on him, and to make matters worse, it was with international teammate Thibaut Courtois.
Kevin De Bruyne would later find love and solace in the hands of another pretty woman - now his wife Michele Lacroix but it wasn't as easy as that.
The couple now have three children - two boys - Mason and Rome, and a daughter named Suri.
Kevin De Bruyne meets the love of his life on social media
After having his heart broken by his ex-lover, Kevin De Bruyne, a midfield general whose presence on the field of play sends cold shivers down the spine of the opposition became lilly-hearted and could not even approach a lady online.
However, his friend came to the rescue.
During an interview with The Players' Tribune, Kevin De Bruyne explained everything that transpired in detail.
A tweet changed everything for Kevin De Bruyne
"It started with a tweet. I only had a few thousand followers at the time, because I was still on loan at Werder Bremen. So I tweeted something about a match or whatever, and this pretty girl favorited it. I was single at the time, and my friend noticed it. So he said, "She looks like a nice girl, no? You should send her a message," he said.
"And I literally said to him, "No, no, no. Come on. People don't like me. They don't get me. She won't respond."
"So he grabbed my phone and started tapping out a message. He showed me the phone and said, "Come on, can I hit send?"
"I was probably on the floor, cringing, but for some reason I said, "O.K. fine, send it."
"Says it all, no? I'm supposed to be this big footballer, and I didn't even have the heart to slide into my future wife's DMs! I didn't dare!
"But thankfully, he sent the message for me, and she responded. We got to know each other over text for a few months. It's a lot easier for me once I get to know someone, so after that, I was good. It really was a beautiful thing. She changed my life in so many ways. Honestly, I don't know what I would do without her," he concluded.
Kevin De Bruyne wedded Michele in 2017 and is grateful for the role she played in his career, especially when he left Stamford Bridge for Wolfsburg. She has continued to support him and care for their three kids.
Manchester City would visit Saint James' Park on Saturday to take on Newcastle United. Kevin De Bruyne is expected to be in action after returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
