Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi declared that Israel's downfall was imminent after a massive attack by Hamas and its allies from the Gaza Strip on October 7.
The operation, dubbed Al-Aqsa Flood by the Palestinian militants, was the first invasion of Israel since the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and marked the start of a new conflict in the region.
According to Al Jazeera, Raisi addressed a large crowd of supporters in Kerman, the city where he was born and where two bombs killed dozens of people on Wednesday. The blasts coincided with the anniversary of the US drone strike that assassinated Iran's top general, Qassem Soleimani, in Baghdad last year.
"The victory of the righteous and the elimination of the wicked is a divine promise," Raisi said, echoing the words of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He praised the Palestinian resistance and condemned the "Zionist regime" for its crimes against the Muslim world.
He claimed that the Israeli military had been defeated by the Palestinian fighters, who reportedly killed more than a thousand Israeli soldiers and civilians and captured hundreds more. He also warned that Iran would retaliate against any US aggression and continue to support its allies in the region.
