How Tinubu Forced Loyalist, MC Oluomo To Step Down as Chairman of Lagos Road Transport Union, NURTW

In a news published by reporters, President Bola Tinubu has asked Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, to resign from his position as the Chairman of the Lagos State branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Sources say that Tinubu used Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusenla III, and Fuji singer Wasiu Ayinde K1 De Ultimate to pressure MC Oluomo, and hinted at the possibility of exposing him to public humiliation.

MC Oluomo, who is a loyal supporter of Tinubu, has been under public criticism because of his relationship with the President. He was reportedly persuaded to run for the role of National President of NURTW, which is seen as less profitable.

Tinubu's concerns about MC Oluomo's reputation as a controversial figure are believed to have motivated this move. As a result, MC Oluomo accepted the role of national president, which is thought to be less rewarding than his previous role in Lagos.

The planned departure of MC Oluomo was allegedly agreed upon during a secret meeting with President Tinubu, with no media presence. Tinubu's apparent reluctance to be seen with MC Oluomo in public may have influenced this decision.

As MC Oluomo resigns, the current Treasurer of the union in Lagos, Mustapha Adekunle (Sego), is ready to take over the leadership at the Lagos State secretariat.

MC Oluomo, who has a lot of political clout, caused controversy before the 2023 elections by making a statement that told Igbo residents in Lagos to not vote if they were not going to support the candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC). This statement led to demands for his arrest on the basis of alleged voter intimidation.

Later, MC Oluomo said that he was only joking, trying to minimize the gravity of the situation. Despite the controversies around his statements, MC Oluomo has continued to be a faithful ally of Bola Tinubu and the APC.

The recent resignation of MC Oluomo happens in the context of factional conflicts within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and changing political situations in Lagos State.

The sickness of factional President Tajudeen Agbede opened up an opportunity for MC Oluomo to possibly move to a role in the national secretariat.

Moreover, political changes in Lagos, such as the abolishment of the park and Garages Committee by the state government, have added to the ongoing political changes within NURTW, giving the union more power over the operations at motor parks and garages.
