Anambra police kill IPOB terrorists for shooting two officers

The Anambra Police Command has confirmed the elimination of two members of the IPOB ESN terrorists responsible for shooting two police officers during a gun battle on Friday, December 29.

The Commissioner of Police Aderemi Adeoye disclosed this in Awka, the capital of Anambra state, on Monday, January 1.

The incident occurred on Friday when the kidnapping gang was operating in the Uga roundabout area of Aguata LGA.

Unaware of the presence of the gang, a team of policemen attached to a motorcade ran into them while attempting to clear a traffic gridlock. Sensing danger, the armed men shot two officers dead and fled the scene after a fierce gun duel.

It was previously reported that the Anambra State Police Command had initiated a manhunt for assailants who attacked and killed the police personnel.

The assailants were armed with AK-47s and engaged in random kidnappings.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, arriving in numbers from Umuchu-Umunze, unleashed a hail of bullets during the assault.

The state Police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and revealed that the criminals had disguised themselves in military attire but were on a kidnapping mission.

The police-led mobile Forward Operating Base swiftly responded to the scene, recovering a Lexus SUV used by the assailants and safely defusing an improvised explosive device found in the vehicle.

Despite the loss of two officers, Commissioner Adeoye commended the relentless efforts of the police personnel and extended condolences to the families of the deceased officers and the Enugu State Police Command.

The commissioner emphasized the determination of the command to intensify the manhunt for the assailants and other criminal elements in the state to ensure the security of all residents and holidaymakers.
