A look at the record of players in European big leagues this season shows that only one of them has scored 5 goals since the beginning of December. Interestingly, this player is Dominic Solanke, a Nigerian-born striker. How did he achieve this feat?
Dominic Solanke in action for Bournemouth
The Bournemouth centre-forward opened his account with a strike against Aston Villa on December 3. The 52nd minute goal gave the Cherries a lead. Unfortunately, Watkins equalized for the Villans to end the game at 2-2. The 26-year-old player was on target nine days later. This time, he got the opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford. The match ended with a 3-0 win over the Red Devils.
Solanke made record for himself just before the Christmas break when he netted a hat trick against Nottingham Forest. He got his first goal of the game six minutes into the second half after he was set up by Marcos Senesi. The Bournemouth striker added another goal in the 58th minute before finishing with a stoppage time winner. Interestingly, this brought his total strikes in the English Premier League to 11. Thus, only two EPL stars have scored more goals in the Premiership than Solanke so far this season.
Meanwhile, the 2017 World U-20 Champion has made a total 54 goal attempts so far in the English top flight this season. This is the joint highest (with Erling Haaland) in the division. This makes him a bigger threat to defenders and goalkeepers than most forwards in the EPL.
