Some Abuja Beggars Say They Make Between N90,000 to N200,000 Monthly, Boast About Their Achievements

Some beggars in Abuja, Nigeria's capital city, have claimed that they make between N90,000 to N200,000 monthly, according to Newsmen.

The beggars boast about what they have achieved with proceeds from the not-si-dignifying means of livelihood.

One of them, a woman seen at Wuse Market, even boasted that she makes more money than many employees.

She said, "I have been begging for over 12 years in different locations in Abuja, I am married and blessed with nine children.

According to her, her husband is not a responsible father to their children and so she resorted to begging to cater for the family and educate her children who also join her in the trade on weekends.

She disclosed that she used to make between N150,000 to N200, 000 monthly between N90,000 to N100,000.

She added:

"The only thing I know how to do is begging as it pays me more than getting a job.

Another one, a physically challenged man, Malam Isa Isa, who said he was born that way into a family of 108, disclosed that he resorted to begging to make ends meet because his father couldn't provided for the family.

" I was later given a wheelchair by the government which made it a bit easier for me."

According to him, he is married with eight children, three of whom are graduates of higher institutions of learning all trained with proceeds of begging. Besides, he has four houses of his own and four of his daughters are married.

On the lucrativeness of the business, he said:

"Now I beg for fun as its the only job I understand, I make more than N300,000 monthly."

Another beggar, Emmanuel Eze, who claim to have resorted to begging after he lost his job because the company he worked for left the country, admitted that begging pays his bills, disclosing that he makes up to N5, 000 and above on a daily basis.

He said:

"If I get a good job I may stop begging, but for now this pays the bills."

Meanwhile, most of these beggars adopt different tricks to prey on the sympathy of unsuspecting members of the public to part with their hard-earned money.
