The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its intent to formally approach the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging the initiation of fresh elections in the 25 state constituencies of Rivers State, Torizone reports. This decision follows the defection of 25 members of the House of Assembly, prompting the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP to convene and assess the party's status in Rivers State.

In a press statement delivered by Debo Ologunagba, the national publicity secretary of the PDP, it was revealed that the NWC extensively evaluated the situation before arriving at the resolution. The committee directed the national legal adviser to initiate legal proceedings in accordance with the country's constitution to address the defection of the 25 Assembly members.
Emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding the democratic process, Ologunagba stated that the PDP is prepared to take all necessary measures to ensure the protection of votes and mandates in the affected constituencies. The party officially called on INEC to conduct fresh elections within the constitutionally stipulated time frame, highlighting the existence of vacancies in the Rivers State House of Assembly due to the members' defection.
