Gunmen suspected to be bandits, on Tuesday, stormed the headquarters of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, shooting sporadically.
A resident of the town, Mustapha Zurmi, told Newsmen that most of the residents were running into the bush to save their lives, while others locked up their houses to avoid being killed or kidnapped by the ravaging terrorists.
Zurmi further stated that the military operatives deployed to the town to save the lives and property of the people were inadequate to contain the situation, pointing out that the bandits were still shooting and moving freely from one area of the town to the other.
He added that nobody could ascertain the number of people killed or kidnapped.
"We are all afraid of being killed or kidnapped by the notorious terrorists. We are facing serious security challenges in the area as the military personnel sent to fight the bandits are inadequate", he added.
All efforts to get a confirmation from the State Police Command's spokesman, ASP Yazid Abdulahi proved abortive as he was not answering calls.
