'I regretted it, I'm sorry' - Ex-Chelsea defender apologises to Di Maria

Former Chelsea defender, Filipe Luis has issued a public apology to former Manchester United and Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria over an incident that occurred years ago.

Luis revealed the dirty tactics he used to subdue Di Maria in their first meeting in La Liga.

The Brazilian arrived in Spain ahead of the 2010-2011 season and became a key player for Atletico Madrid over two spells at the club.

In his debut campaign with Atletico Madrid, the left-back was up against Di Maria and Real Madrid for the first time.

Prior to the match, Luis was approached by former Barcelona and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, who told him that the only way to rile up Di Maria was to mention his wife's name.

Speaking in the latest episode of the Charla podcast, Luis revealed that he did as he was told, and the effect was immediate on the former Paris Saint-Germain star.

Luis also admitted that he feels bad about what he did to the Argentine and extended an apology to him.

"My biggest regret was with Di María. Atléti vs Real, Agüero said 'if you come and talk about his wife, he will get lost'.

"I spoke about his wife and he was lost. I beat him the whole game. I got home and regretted it so much. Di María, I'm sorry," Luis said.
