'Even cults don't operate like this' - Medical student displays undertaking he was asked to sign

Some medical students in a Nigerian school are voicing their anger and frustration over a recently implemented undertaking policy.

According to the medical student identified as @Poeticmedic1 that brought it up on Twitter, the policy, which was sprung upon students on the day of their exams, required them to sign an agreement stating that there is no space available in the 400 level.

As a result, students are forced to switch to another department, complete their studies there, and then hope for a chance to return to their desired field. This uncertainty about their future prospects has left students feeling betrayed and disheartened.

Angered students have likened the undertaking policy to cult-like practices, expressing disbelief that their own institution would subject them to such treatment.

The medical student wrote on Twitter;

"Forcing students to sign an undertaking like this on the day of their exam is madness. An undertaking that means 'There is no space in 400 level, so you must go to another department, graduate in that department, before you're allowed to come back and even if you do that, space might not open up so you must wait any amount of years' Even cults don't operate like this.

"You're asking people who have already spent 5 years in the school to sign away their futures, and every opportunity to get justice? These are children with dreams. How can a school be so shameless?? They paid their fees, paid all the money you asked for, the government paid your salaries, and this how you're going to treat your own students????

"Is it because your children are not here???? Last year, these same people collected 50k from each student to "build hostel" for accreditation. They doubled school fees. Just to feed them this rubbish. Quick update... people in my class signed and nothing happened. No word from anybody, just a few angry people in my class.

"Anyway, my class issues are very different from theirs. my colleagues are asking me to go anonymous for my own safety. I will remove my profile picture, but I won't folded since all of us want to be mad in this school. A lot of people are asking what our unions and associations are doing and I want to say a truckload of nothing. These students signed the undertaking and nothing happened.

"Whatever is happening in Nigerian politics, you'll find similar in AAUCOM Politics. It might be worse. Word reaching me now is that there'll be no repeat or resit in this exam. Everyone who didn't pass on a sitting will be withdrawn.

"This happened to this same class 2 years during pre mb ago and 300+ students were withdrawn. Last year same thing last year's pre mb. About half of 019 set were withdrawn. The school just fails and withdraws students at will and nothing happens."

@timothy_ehigie commented: "Make una nor gree.... we go even join una for this."

@DebbieTiyan said: "This is the same madness going on in FUNAI."

@vaahlll said: "Lol they won't try this with engineering students... I trust my people lol @NuesaAAU."

@AAUEhub reacted: "Who ever is cooking up these ideas must be really wicked."

@faeridah said: "This is so bad, this country is in shambles."

@dosunmumubarak said:N"Sign it. The undertaking is worth less than the paper it is written upon. It's an obvious case of duress."

@TheChiefCoach1 reacted: "The agreement is illegal. You're being forced to sign under duress."
