During the flag-off of the remedial work on existing roads in Asokoro and Wuse, the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, addressed concerns about public demonstrations in a video posted by TVC. Wike dismissed worries about protests, stating that it's a normal part of democracy and that people expressing their views through demonstrations is a natural aspect of civic engagement. He employed a figurative expression, saying, "If they don't demonstrate, is it the devil that will demonstrate?" suggesting that demonstrations are expected and inherent in democratic societies.
Wike emphasised the need for people to focus on assessing the government's achievements, encouraging questions about what has been accomplished during the given timeframe. He asserted that with the support of the President, notable progress has been made, and by May 29, 2024, the FCT will showcase its achievements under the administration. The minister aims to demonstrate tangible results and improvements in the FCT, emphasising accountability and transparency in governance.
According to him, "Nobody should be worried that people are demonstrating; if they don't demonstrate, is it the devil that will demonstrate? So don't bother yourself; people must have work to do. What we want people to ask us, what have we achieved in these few months that Mr. President has given us, what have we achieved? We can boldly tell Nigerians that in these few months, with the support of Mr. President, this is what we have done; this is what we have done, and by the grace of God, in one-year office of Mr. President, Nigerians will see what Mr. President has done in the FCT, and that is what we stand for. By May 29, 2024, FCT will roll out its achievements as far as the administration of Mr. President is concerned.
