The Confederation of Africa Football, CAF's Player of the Year final three nominees has sparked discontent and frustration among football fans across the continent.
CAF unveiled the final three for the coveted award on Thursday, with the trio of Victor Osimhen, Mohamed Salah, and Achraf Hakimi on the shortlist.
Africans call out CAF
The nominees were revealed through CAF's social media platforms, but the selection has left many questioning the criteria and fairness of the list.
"The best of the best," CAF posted on their X.com account. "Player of the Year (MEN) award - Final 3," it added.
But the three contenders whose names were revealed have been met with resounding expressions of disapproval on the social media platform.
The fans took to the comment section of the post to express themselves, with the list described as a joke and shame by some of them.
CAF's list has been criticised by the fans who have mostly voiced their opinions on the absence of Morocco and Sevilla's goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou.
Bounou, who was brilliant for club and country, Morocco, who made it to the semifinal of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, is said to have done enough to be included in the final three.
The comment section has been flooded with memes, comments and voices of discontent amongst cheers for Nigeria's Osimhen, considered by many to be a frontrunner for the award.
