EPL: 40 top players for one team - Ziyech slams Chelsea's transfer policy under Boehly

Chelsea Loanee, Hakim Ziyech has hit out at the club's transfer policy under co-owner Todd Boehly which saw players 'run out of patience' at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea has spent over £1 billion on transfers since Boehly took over the Premier League club from Roman Abramovich in May 2022 which has not brought success on the pitch.

The west London club suffered an abysmal 12th-placed finish last season and spent £434.5m in the summer transfer window.

However, Mauricio Pochettino's side is struggling again this season and currently sits in 10th position with 16 points after 13 games.

Ziyech, who left Chelsea to join Galatasaray on a season-long loan this summer with an obligation to make the move permanent, feels the Blues squad was too large and was 'asking for problems.'

"We had three teams there with top players," Ziyech told Voetbal International.

"At a certain point, we run out of patience. A selection with 40 players for one team [Chelsea] is simply far too much and is asking for problems."

"Pff, Chelsea, we can talk about that for a long time. But the conclusion is that things did not turn out as we had hoped," he added.

"It was a period full of coaching changes, nagging with the club management, a departure to Paris Saint-Germain that did not happen at the last minute, and it was disappointing in terms of football."

Ziyech spent three years at Chelsea from 2020 to 2023.

The Morocco international made a total of 107 appearances for the Blues.
