Doma United's goalkeeping marvel, Kingdom Osayi's defensive mastery has taken the NPFL by storm after an average of 0.5 goals conceded per game this season.
Doma United Superstar Kingdom Osayi has emerged as a standout name on the pitch in the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, campaign.
The talented goalkeeper has impressed the Football League community with his excellent performances, streaks and stats, one of which is a staggering eight clean sheets in 10 matches.
Kingdom Osayi and Doma United
The rise of the Savannah Tigers to the top of the NPFL standings this season is built with Osayi as the foundation.
While the Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper is not new to the Football League, Osayi's performances for Doma United have now caught the eye.
Match after match this season in the NPFL, with Osayi in between the sticks, the Doma United net has remained impervious to opposing strikers, a testament to Osayi's unmatched prowess this season.
The highlight of his incredible season so far is not only his eye-catching and point-blank saves but also a deep understanding of the game.
Not only has Osayi proven to be an excellent shot-stopper for United, but he's also shown that he is an impressive ball-playing star as he has allowed Doma to execute their passing from the back with panache.
Osayi's Stats
For those who had ever doubted his ability or probably were unaware of it, his latest display against contenders Remo Stars doused those doubts.
With Kingdom in superb form and shape, Doma went, saw, and secured a credible point in Ikenne after a goalless affair.
Osayi made no fewer than four solid saves, including denying the top scorer this season, Sikiru Alimi, the best chance of the game from point-blank.
The clean sheet in Ikenne was the sixth consecutive match Osayi had kept a clean sheet, taking his tally to eight in 10 matches so far this season.
Some of the clean sheets came in a run of matches that included not just Remo Stars but former NPFL champions, Enyimba and Plateau United.
Also, there is more to him than just shot-stopping as Osayi boasts of two assists this season, which got him the nickname "Alison Becker of NPFL" a testament to his obvious ball-playing ability.
His brilliance in between the posts and reflexes and ability on the ball has not only impressed but left followers and fans alike in awe.
All these have combined to showcase a goalkeeper who has transformed into a defensive stalwart that his teammates and coach have come to rely on and opponents fear.
The next time Doma United take to the pitch, all eyes will be on their goalkeeper, Osayi whose performances have generated calls for an invitation to the national team, the Super Eagles.
Osayi could make it seven clean sheets in a row when Doma United host Niger Tornadoes next at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe in the NPFL next Saturday.
