When it was announced that Wesley Fofana had picked up a serious injury before he had even made it to the preseason tour this summer, it was tempting to think very dark thoughts.
He missed the whole season before his move to Chelsea with a broken leg, and his one year with us so far was shattered by a really serious knee injury and several follow up problems that prevented him ever making it to the field consistently.
When we heard about the ACL injury this summer, we started to just plan without Fofana, and stop counting on him at all.

But time flies in football, and amazingly there was footage released by the club yesterday of the defender back out on the grass at Cobham yesterday.
He will still be a long way off group training and then even further off match fitness, but this is a huge step, and as the Evening Standard point out, this guarantees he will be back this season, which is something there were some doubts about initially.
In fact, if he's on grass now, and has more than a month of training until January 1st, 2024, what date do you put on a return? It's not crazy to think he could be less than two months from a return to the team at this point, although without more knowledge of his progress it's hard to be too accurate.
The other question is, when he's fit, who are our best centre backs?
