Two killed as Boko Haram attack Gov Buni's convoy
Two policemen were reportedly killed while three others sustained injuries as Boko Haram suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked Governor Mai Mala Buni's convoy on Saturday.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the ambush attack on Buni's convoy came when the convoy was moving back Damaturu on Maiduguri-Kano express way after the Unimaid 24th convocation.
According to sources in the Buni's convoy, the insurgents ambushed the firing sporadically from both sides of the road heading to Damaturu, saying "we left Maiduguri very late, around 6.00 pm after Magrib prayer.
"We were discussing and laughing when we were attacked along Beneshiekh and Mainok, after attending the 24th convocation of the University of Maiduguri.
"Governor Buni was with us in the convoy when the incident happened, after convocation he proceeded to Abuja for an official function.
For many years the military has prohibited night travel on Maiduguri-Damaturu way, warning the terrain is dangerous for commuters.

Man shot dead outside house in Dublin
A man has been shot dead in Dublin, gardaí (Irish Police) have said.
Emergency services were called shortly before 19:00 local time after a man in his early 20s was shot outside a house on Barry Drive, Finglas.
He was taken by ambulance to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Irish broadcaster RTÉ has reported that the shooting was drug-related and the victim was shot several times in the head and body.
Gardaí at Finglas have commenced a murder investigation and have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
Nigerian Inspector-General Orders Police Officers To Tender Retirement Letters After Exceeding Statutory Age, Service
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered police formations and commands to extract a letter of retirement from police officers who are due for retirement but have refused to leave the service.
SaharaReporters obtained the police signal from the IGP office on Saturday which said a "disturbing trend" that policemen who have attained 60 years of age or 35 years in service refused to quit.
"Cooperation with other govt bodies x in compliance with the directive of the honourable chairman, Police service commission, the IGP directs you draw the attention of all members of the force to the emerging and disturbing trend in the Nigeria Police Force.
"This is contrary to the provisions of the public service rule (PSR) 020810 i & ii which provides that the mandatory retirement age for all grades in the service shall be 60 years or 35 years of pensionable service.
"No officer shall be allowed to remain in service after attaining the retirement of 60 years or 35 years of pensionable service," the signal said.
"The police authorities need to publish all officers that have violated their service retirement age," a source in the IGP office noted.
