The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna on Friday announced the promotion of Lt. Col. Abubakar-Surajo Imam to Professor of Mechatronics Engineering.

Imam is said to be the first-ever professor among serving personnel in the history of the Nigerian Army.

Brig.-Gen. AM Tukur, Registrar of the Academy, announced the promotion in a statement on Friday in Kaduna State.

According to him, the promotion was ratified during the NDA Council Meeting in September and took effect from October 1, 2023.

The registrar said that the council's decision was a reflection of the confidence and recognition of the contributions of Imam to the Department of Mechatronics Engineering of the Academy.

He said the new professor had provided exemplary services and upheld the standard of excellence expected in his field.

"This recognition not only honours Professor Imam but also highlights the commitment of the Nigerian Defence Academy to acknowledging and rewarding outstanding contributions within its academic community," he added.

President Bola Tinubu will today leave Abuja for Berlin, Germany, where he will take part in the G20 Compact with Africa (CwA) Conference on Monday, November 20, 2023.

A statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said the CwA Conference is being hosted by German Chancellor, Mr Olaf Scholz.

According to the statement, President Tinubu will during the conference, join other Heads of State and Government of CwA member countries, bilateral partners, as well as heads of international organisations to deliberate on the immediate enhancement of economic and business cooperation to outline concrete measures to boost investments in critical areas such as energy, trade, infrastructure, new technologies, among others.

State governors as well as former ministers and other officials, who served in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, and the political associates of President Bola Tinubu have launched an intense lobbying for appointment as Nigerian ambassadors to foreign countries.

Saturday PUNCH gathered that chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress, National Assembly members and retired military officers were among those jostling for ambassadorial nominations.

Nigeria has a total of 109 missions, 76 embassies, 22 high commissions and 11 consulates abroad.

The desperate lobby for ambassadorial appointments commenced after the Federal Government recalled all the envoys from their posts on September 2, 2023.

The envoys were directed to return to the country on or before October 31.

On October 20, 2016, former President Muhammadu Buhari approved the nomination of 46 non-career ambassadors-designate in addition to the previous nomination of 47 career ambassadors-designate.

The Nigeria Police handed over 26 illegal aliens who were arrested in Ayua, near Auchi last week to the Nigeria Immigration Service for interrogation.

The spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, who disclosed this on Friday in Benin, said the foreigners were moved to the custody of the Edo State Command of NIS on Monday, November 13, 2023.

Nwabuzor added that when the aliens were quizzed, it was discovered that they could not effectively communicate in the English language or identify their countries of origin.

He said, "They confessed that a certain young man brought them to Nigeria through the Cameroon border. The 26 migrants comprised 16 males and eight females from Cameroon while the remaining two, a male and a female from Burkina Faso, were reportedly arrested at Ayua-Uzaire, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State on November 9th, 2023.
