Labour Party, PDP call for cancellation of Imo governorship election

The Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have jointly demanded the cancellation of the Imo state governorship election held this Saturday.

Both parties raised serious concerns over alleged irregularities, casting doubt on the credibility of the electoral process.

In a press conference, Tony Nwulu, the LP's deputy governorship candidate, asserted there was no genuine election in Imo state.

He accused security agents of providing cover for individuals who, according to him, subverted the will of the people.

His words: "There was no election in Imo state on Saturday. What happened was the diversion of the electoral materials to the homes of the people and the LGA council headquarters. In all this, the police, Army and the DSS provided security to the actors.

"They came with huge sums of Doesn'to the polling units for votes buying, but the Imo people rejected them.

"They now resorted to snatching of electoral materials and diversion of the electoral materials to the homes of individuals and to the LGA headquarters, where they are currently rewriting the results.

"We have all the records. We are putting Nigerians on notice that there was no election in Imo "tate on Saturday.

"The position of our party and my principal, Senator Athan Achonu, who is the governorship candidate of the party, is that this sham called election be cancelled."

Samuel Anyanwu, the PDP governorship candidate, echoed these sentiments in a separate press conference. He accused both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agents of failing in their constitutional duty to ensure a credible election.

According to Anyanwu, instead of safeguarding the electoral process, security agents allegedly protected All Progressives Congress (APC) members involved in rewriting the results.

Both parties have vowed not to accept anything less than a total poll cancellation, emphasizing the severity of their concerns and the potential threat to democracy in Imo state.
