Popular catholic priest, Fr. Kelvin Ugwu gives his opinion on the trending saga of actress Ekene Umenwa leaving her husband to kneel to Moses Bliss as he speaks on how preachers these days are making themselves out to be gods.
It would be recalled that reactions have been trailing a video of Ekene Umenwa leaving her husband during their wedding ceremony to keel to Moses Bliss when he came to perform at her wedding.
In Father Kelvin's lengthy view on the matter, he explained that the actress had been out of control with the way she rushed to kneel to the singer.
Additionally, he posited that most preachers and clergymen tend to make themselves to be seen like gods by their followers, unlike how it was done in the bible, where apostles were quick to correct such impressions.
He wrote ...
"You must have watched the trending video that portrayed the reaction of the bride at the sight of the gospel musician/minister Moses Bliss who appeared on her wedding day. The Bride, Ekene, was literally out of control at the sight of her supposed idol or "powerful" and "anointed" minister.
The Video says a lot about the bride and more about the minister.
Yes, a lot of women, and indeed men, are lacking in emotional intelligence, emotional maturity, and emotional control. Some are just overly dramatic. Some women will even join to organize their engagement party, and still act surprised when the man asks "Will you marry me?"
But while most of you chose to dwell on the lady's reaction, what most of you failed to look at is the minister.
I will keep saying this, ministers these days make themselves gods and are even excited when they are seen as such.
Even in biblical days, people get overly excited about the apostles and disciples, but they were always quick to correct that impression and remind the people that they were ordinary men.
In Act 10, Peter visited Cornelius. The man was excited and even fell on his feet, but Peter corrected him immediately.
"As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. But Peter made him get up. "Stand up," he said, "I am only a man myself." ~ Acts 10: 25-26
Paul and Barnabas after performing great signs among the people, the people were so excited that they concluded that gods had come to them in human form. They came out in numbers to worship Paul and Barnabas, but what did the apostles do?
Acts 14:
14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard this, they tore their clothes and ran in among the multitude, crying out
15 and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them.
In the trending video, the minister was busy enjoying the show. When you see something that is not right, correct it immediately. Others will also learn from it. The way the lady was so excited, kneeling and hugging the minister even before her husband, was not supposed to be funny. But this is what happens when ministers make themselves superstars.
I kept saying this and someone will come to tell me how I am jealous... The Bible is clear, it says:
"So you also, when you have done all that is commanded you, say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty." (Luke 17:10 RSV)
