No fewer than thirty (30) young illegal migrants have been apprehended and paraded by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State Command, Naija News reports.
In a statement released on Wednesday, November 1, the State Comptroller of NIS, Abosede Olayemisi, said the illegal migrants from Benin and Congo were also found to be involved in fraudulent activities against their fellow migrants.
The arrests, she said, were made in Abeokuta, where the illegal migrants were deceiving their fellow nationals with false promises of non-existent businesses.
"They are 30 in number. We apprehended them at their office, where they gathered and were doing illicit business. They are defrauding fellow foreign nationals by bringing them in and collecting money from them. They promised them employment in Nigeria.
"After taking money from them, they threw them to the streets. The next thing is to repatriate them to their home countries," Olayemisi noted in the terse statement.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has given N214,285 cash to each of the 14 rescued female students at the Federal University Gusau (FUG).
The state Commissioner for Humanitarian and Relief Matters, Salisu Musa, made this known in a statement issued by the spokesman of the ministry, Bashir Kabir, on Wednesday in Gusau, the state capital.
Musa said the monetary assistance was presented to the victims through the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, who was on a visit to the state.
The Commissioner said the Zamfara Government appreciated the gesture and applauded President Bola Tinubu and the minister for the kind assistance to the students.
He said: "Each of the 14 students received a token of N214,285 cash from the Federal Government.
"On behalf of the Zamfara Government, we appreciate the gesture and the Honourable Minister Dr Betta Edu, for the kind assistance to the students."
He expressed the commitment of the state government towards collaborating with the Federal Government in salvaging the plight of victims of the humanitarian crisis in the state.
The Commissioner appreciated the management of the university and the parents of the victims for their patience, understanding, support and cooperation during the sad moment.
