Report: Victor Osimhen and Napoli disagree over €200m release clause as contract woes persist

Uncertainty surrounds Victor Osimhen's future at Napoli amid contract negotiation woes.

Recent reports have cast a shadow of doubt over the future of Nigeria's Victor Osimhen at Italian Champions, SSC Napoli.

Pulse Sports can report that negotiations for a new contract have hit several roadblocks due to purported contract demands that have left the player and club at odds.

Osimhen and Napoli

The 24-year-old Nigerian forward and his current club have initiated discussions regarding a contract extension, with just two years left on his present agreement.

Osimhen's impressive performances last season played a pivotal role in helping Napoli secure their first Serie A title in 33 years, making him a beloved figure at the club.

His remarkable feat of scoring 26 goals in 32 appearances also earned the title of Serie A's top scorer for the season.

But recent events within the club, including social media activities and an altercation with manager, Rudi Garcia, have cast serious doubts and a cloud of uncertainty over Osimhen's immediate future.

This has led to negotiations for a new contract, but according to a Mirror report, the talks have hit a snag due to certain demands made by the player.

The report notes that the Super Eagles forward, who currently earns around 4.5 million euros, wants his yearly wage doubled.

Osimhen and Napoli are also reportedly at loggerheads over a release clause, with the club wanting to set the fee at 200 million euros but the player wants an 'easy and cheap fee'.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles striker has continued from where he stopped last season as Napoli look to defend their Italian title.

Osimhen has scored six goals in eight matches this season in the Serie A but is sidelined until mid-November due to a hamstring injury he picked up while on international duty with the Nigerian national men's team, the Super Eagles.
