Harry Maguire emerges as Manchester United hero with crucial Champions League goal

Manchester United's pressure against FC Copenhagen finally paid off as Harry Maguire scored a vital goal in the Champions League.

For much of the match at Old Trafford it was the visitors who looked more like scoring with opportunities coming in both halves.

Despite his struggles, he can still come up trumps when needed

United, who were beaten by Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in their other Group A games, are desperate for a win.

Fans felt as though they should have been awarded a penalty around the hour mark as Marcus Rashford went down inside the area.

He was deemed offside and play resumed, but Erik ten Hag's side finally found the breakthrough thanks to an unlikely goalscorer.

Christian Eriksen's cross found Maguire towards the back post, and he headed it down and into the back of the net from close range.

It is the England international's first goal of the season in just his fourth start of the campaign thus far.

Maguire continues to struggle for game time under Ten Hag after speculation he would leave the club in the summer.

However, he has proven that he can perform when needed, especially in such a crucial game for United.
