The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested six suspected phone snatchers and thieves in Kiyawa, Kazaure and Hadejia Local Government Areas of the state.
Spokesperson of the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, said t4 Android phones, Tiger generator, two sewing machines, cooking oil and hard drugs were recovered from the suspects.
"On 20/10/2023, detectives attached to Auyo Divisional Headquarters, nabbed one Saidu Suleiman 'm' age 20yrs of NTA, Tijjani Garba 'm' age 19yrs of Kwanar Madawaki, and Auwal Muhammad 'm' age 18yrs of Kasuwar Kuda all of Hadejia LGA in possession of four Android Phones strongly suspected to be stolen alongside operational motorcycle Daylong without registration number and handed over the suspects to Crime branch for discreet investigation," the statement read.
"On investigation, the suspects revealed that they conspired and stole the said phones at A.A. Mai Doki filling station in Auyo LGA. Investigation further revealed that the stolen phones belonged to one Rabiu Maigoro 'm'
"Suspects confessed to the commission of the crime allegedly against them and will be charged to court for prosecution upon completion of the investigation,"
In another development, on 21/10/2023 one Shemau Zakari 'f' age 31yrs of Katoge quarters Kazaure LGA, reported at Kazaure Police Station that on 20/10/23 at about 2000hrs, some criminal elements trespassed into her house and stole two sewing machines valued at sixty thousand (N60,000.00K)
On receipt of the report, detectives attached to Kazaure Division swiftly swung into action and arrested one Sani Jafaru 'm' age 19yrs of Magama Quarters Kazaure LGA in possession of the two stolen sewing machines.
On interrogation, the suspect made a confessional statement for the commission of the offence against him. Investigation also revealed that the suspect was once convicted of a similar offence.
The PPRO said the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation to face the full wrath of the law.
"In addition, on 21/10/2023 at about 0800hrs, one Kamalu Saleh 'm' age 33yrs of Sabuwar Unguwa quarters, Kiyawa LGA, reported at Kiyawa Police station that, on 20/10/2023 unknown persons broke into his shop and stole the following items; watering generator, tiger generator, and pipes.
"Upon receipt of the report, surveillance squad attached to Kiyawa Division swung into action. Fortunately, on 21/10/2023 at about 1900hrs, one Ya'u Ado 'm' age 18yrs of Sabuwar Unguwa quarters was arrested in possession of the stolen Tiger Generator,"
On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence.
Consequently, on 20/10/2023 at about 2020hrs, one Bashari Labbani 'm' age 34yrs of Unguwar Isah village, Baure LGA of Katsina state, reported at Babura Police station that on the same date at about 2000hrs, unknown person tress-passed into his shop and stole twenty-five litres of cooking oil.
On receipt of the report, policemen from to Babura Division on routine patrol arrested one Mamman Abdullahi 'm' age 20yrs of Kofar Yamma quarters, Babura LGA, strongly suspected for the crime.
When search was conducted at the suspect's residence, the following exhibits were recovered: twenty-five (25) litres of cooking oil, four (4) Robber Solutions, one bottle of sock and die, two (2) wraps of dry leave suspected to be Indian hemp.
On interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the commission of the offence allegedly against him.
The suspects will be arraigned in court after investigation to face the full weight of the law, the PPRO added.
