Chelsea was made to settle for just one point in their London derby against Arsenal on Saturday evening after the Gunners mounted a late fightback at Stamford Bridge
Emotions were very high in Chelsea's thrilling 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Saturday evening. After the Blues went two goals ahead through Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk, the Gunners mounted a late fightback to ensure the points were shared.
After a misplaced pass from Robert Sanchez, Declan Rice was on hand to place the ball into a largely empty net. Then it was Leandro Trossard, who lost Malo Gusto, to equalise for Arsenal with just minutes left of normal time.
The second-half especially was a classic all-London derby where emotions were high, tackles were flying in and there were plenty of goals. Moises Caicedo, who was signed for way over £100million in the summer transfer window, had an excellent game in the midfield alongside Conor Gallagher and Enzo Fernandez.
The Blues' midfield trio largely dominated their Arsenal counterparts, which played a huge part in the bearing of the game. Caicedo put in a few strong tackles, some of which were perhaps contentious - especially to Mikel Arteta.
Arteta was visibly furious on the touchline with some of the Ecuadorian's challenges but after the game, the two enjoyed a warm embrace. But it was one of those games, with intense tackles going in from both teams at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea can take many positives - including the performance from their midfield trio - from the game despite throwing away a two-goal lead in west London. Mauricio Pochettino admitted after the match that it does feel like two points dropped rather than one gained.
"Yes [it feels like two points dropped] because I feel until 77 minutes when we conceded the first goal, I think we were in control and didn't concede many chances," Pochettino told reporters. "I think Arsenal are an amazing team, they were fighting last season for the trophy and I think this season improved with some players also. Yes, disappointed because we dropped two points."
Next up for Chelsea is a Premier League match with Brentford next Saturday in the lunchtime kick-off. The Blues have not lost a match since the defeat to Aston Villa at the end of last month, with Pochettino enjoying a bit of momentum for the first time since being appointed as head coach in the summer.
