Newcastle United fans have maintained their support for midfielder Sandro Tonali amidst the player's ongoing betting investigation.
Italian sports outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that many of the club's fans don't fully understand the situation and are unwilling to accept a potential lengthy ban on the player.
"They made him feel like one of the family and he will remain as such also when he won't be allowed to play," the report read in part.
The report also provided insight into how fans perceive the scandal involving the Italian midfielder.
Sandro Tonali is being investigated for allegedly betting on Milan games while he was under contract with the club.
However, he consistently bet on Milan to win. This breach could result in a ban of at least three years, but Tonali's legal team is actively working to reduce the length of the suspension.
The move by his lawyers comes as he self-reported himself of the issue, as well as his efforts to seek medical help for his gambling addiction.
Tonali may have made his last appearance of the season on Saturday, coming off the bench in a home Premier League match against Crystal Palace where they won 4-0.
