Ibrahim Modibo, an APC Chieftain, has stated that Israel is not a Christian State and that about eighty percent of the population in Israel are Jews. He also said that while there is a small percentage of Muslims and Christians in Israel, Palestine is predominantly Muslim, but it also has a Christian population.
Modibo made this statement during an interview with AIT, where he spoke about the Israel-Palestine conflict. He also said that Nigeria should downplay the level of involvement of religion in its politics and learn to accommodate each other because issues related to religion, ethnicity, and land have been leading causes of unrest in various countries, including Israel and Palestine.
In Modibo's words: "Even the current crisis now between Palestine and Israel, it is because there is lack of accommodation. Because if you see Israel, it is not a Christian State. About 80 percent are Jews. The Christians are just a small percentage there and the Muslims are also there in small percentage. In Palestine, most of them are Muslims but there are also Christians there. So, the issue of accommodation is very fundamental and paramount".
