Liverpool 'set to hijack' Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea's move for Victor Osimhen as Jurgen Klopp 'deploys scouts'

Liverpool have joined the race for Victor Osimhen's highly coveted signature, a report has claimed.

Europe's biggest clubs were put on high alert last month after Osimhen's public fallout with Napoli - when the Serie A outfit's social media team appeared to mock the striker for missing a penalty against Bologna.

And according to the Sun Liverpool are among a score of clubs to have registered an interest in the striker, who fired Napoli to the first Scudetto in 33 years last season.

Jurgen Klopp allegedly sent one of his scouts to watch Osimhen in action on international duty.

It would not have been a very fruitful trip, however. The 24-year-old played 60 minutes of Nigeria's friendly with Saudi Arabia in Portugal before a hamstring injury forced him off, while he was ruled out of the following game against Mozambique.

Liverpool joined Arsenal and Chelsea on the list of Premier League clubs widely reported to have registered a serious interest in Osimhen.

Meanwhile, for months, the striker was thought to be among United's primary transfer targets alongside Harry Kane. The club ultimately failed to land either player, instead spending up to £72million on Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.

It is unclear whether United would renew their interest in Osimhen.

According to the Mail Online, Napoli chairman Aurelio Di Laurentiis rejected at least two serious bids for Osimhen in the summer.

Moreover, Di Laurentiis even slapped a prohibitive price tag of £150million on the attacker.

However, the Nigerian star's contract in Naples expires in 2025 and the Serie A champions may be forced to sell the prize asset next summer, or risk losing him for nothing the following year.
