The Super Eagles of Nigeria were drawn in Group A of the forthcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a drilling CAF draw in the city of Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Thursday, October 12.
Ahead of the draw, the Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped in the latest FIFA ranking which forced CAF to seed them in Pot 2 and open them to the possibility of facing one of the highest ranked African teams including the host of the 2023 AFCON, Ivory Coast.
Hence, the three times African champions were already geared up to fall into a very tough group, the scenario that ended up playing out exactly as expected.
In the draw, which was co-hosted by Senegalese music icon, Akon, the Super Eagles of Nigeria found themselves paired with their fierce rivals and hosts, Ivory Coast.
