The former Vice-President of Nigeria and the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar outlines the condition under which he would cease his legal fight against President Bola Tinubu.
Despite finishing second in the election and having his petition challenging the president's victory dismissed by the Presidential Tribunal, Atiku continued his legal efforts in the United States.
I will drop the fight against Tinubu on one condition - Atiku
He argued that there were discrepancies in the certificates submitted by Tinubu to INEC, which, in his view, should have made him ineligible to contest the election.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Atiku emphasized that he was not prepared to abandon his pursuit of justice.
"I have already filed my appeal against him at the Supreme Court. It is only when the court rules that he is right that I will drop this fight; in other words, I will drop this fight when the court rules because there is no court higher than the Supreme Court," he stated.
When questioned about whether he faced pressure from President Tinubu to withdraw his case, Atiku revealed that after the election, he became aware of a delegation of governors sent by the president to approach him.
"I didn't even allow them to come to my house," the PDP presidential candidate remarked, prompting laughter from those present.
He also expressed that he had no fear that they might target his business interests, recounting the revocation of the license of Intels, a logistics firm he co-owned, during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
