Mason Greenwood is struggling at Getafe
Mason Greenwood made his first Getafe start in midweek but has been dropped by the La Liga side in Saturday's clash with Villarreal. The 21-year-old Manchester United loanee has endured a rocky start to his resumed career in Spain amid threatening chants from opposition fans.
Greenwood played 90 minutes in Getafe's 2-2 draw at Athletic Club on Wednesday, providing the assist for Gaston Alvarez's first equaliser.
But he made way for Jaime Mata for Villarreal's visit to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez as a victim of a change of system.
Getafe boss Jose Bordalas switched to a five-at-the-back formation to counter the threat of Villarreal's attack despite their poor start to the La Liga season.
Villarreal are 13th on seven points after as many games, two places below Getafe, on eight points after two wins and draws in their opening seven outings.
Greenwood hasn't found the net since United's 3-1 win at Brentford on January 19, 2022, just days before he was arrested after being the subject of social media allegations.
He was later charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour. However, Greenwood strongly denied any wrongdoing.
