The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, has cried out over alleged threats to his life amid ongoing impeachment proceedings against the embattled deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Oladiji disclosed that he has been receiving mysterious phone calls in relation to the impeachment proceedings.
According to the Speaker, a distressing incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when unidentified individuals placed fetish items at the gate of his official residence in Alagbaka part of Akure, the state capital.
While stating that he is undeterred by the developments, Oladiji emphasised that lawmakers, particularly those from Ondo South senatorial district, where the deputy governor hails from, have also been subjected to threats, warning them not to return home.
Oladiji reaffirmed the resolve of the lawmakers to carry out their constitutional duties without yielding to fear,
Meanwhile, the impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor have sparked intense political turmoil within the state.
"I saw an object in front of my lodge while I was driving out this morning. I have been receiving threats of various kinds.
"There are calls from different people. My life has been under serious threat from unknown people. I called on a security operative to help us track the people.
"This is a legislative assignment. They want to suppress me, but God is in control.
"People see me as the arrowhead to removing Aiyedatiwa. My members are complaining about receiving threats. Those from the South are being threatened not to return home."
