AC Milan striker, Olivier Giroud has explained why his team failed to beat Newcastle United in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League tie.
Giroud featured as AC Milan kicked off their Champions League campaign with a stalemate against Newcastle at San Siro Stadium.
Speaking at his post-match interview, the France striker said that Milan drew 0-0 with Newcastle because the Serie A side wasted their scoring opportunities in front of goal.
"I think we had so many scoring opportunities and efficiency in front of goal is very important at this level," Giroud said.
"We gave our all, we were just missing something in the finishing.
"We need to evaluate what has to be improved and focus on the next game. This is football, sometimes it is better to forget, but always with the desire to learn."
He added:
"I love him [Sandro Tonali - Giroud's former teammate], but tonight we really wanted to win. I think we were lacking some luck."
AC Milan will now face Verona in the Serie A tie on Saturday.
