Messi once again emerged as Argentina's hero on Thursday, sealing a tight 1-0 victory over Ecuador in their World Cup qualifying showdown with a remarkable late freekick.
However, amidst his monumental performance, the 36-year-old didn't forget to commend Romero, hailing him as the "best defender in the world".
"For me, he is the best defender in the world right now," Messi told reporters after the game. "Amazing performance tonight, man of the match."
Receiving such high praise from the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is undeniably significant, yet not everyone shared the same view as the Inter Miami superstar.
