Chelsea reportedly failed with a late bid to sign Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi on deadline day.
Despite spending almost 300m over the summer, Chelsea were still trying their hardest to sign Nottingham Forest and Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi.
The Blues lost Christopher Nkunku to injury before the start of the season, leaving them with only Nicolas Jackson to lead the line, leading them to pursue a late move for Awoniyi.
Chelsea were close to signing Awoniyi
The Nigerian striker has been in phenomenal form since joining Nottingham Forest last summer, finishing the season strongly to steer the club away from relegation.
According to the Athletic, Chelsea enquired about signing Awoniyi 48 hours before the window slammed shut but Forest rejected the approach immediately.
Awoniyi remains extremely vital to Nottingham Forest's plans and after scoring 14 goals in 36 appearances last season, he will be required to push them forward again.
