Nigeria Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface will battle a star-studded lineup that includes Harry Kane for the Bundesliga Player of the Month for August.
Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has been rewarded for a strong start to the season in the German Bundesliga.
Boniface has been nominated for the Bundesliga Player of the Month for August.
The Nigerian is set to battle Harry Kane and four others to be crowned the best player for the first month of the new season.
Boniface's form at Leverkusen
The 22-year-old has settled in remarkably well following his transfer to Bayer in the summer.
Boniface joined the Werkself from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise for around 22 million pounds.
He has since become a fan favourite at the BayArena after a blistering start to life in Germany.
In just three matches this season, Boniface has scored four goals and assisted two more for Bayer Leverkusen.
His form for Leverkusen has now earned him a nomination for the Bundesliga Player of the Month and also a first-ever call to the Nigeria national team, Super Eagles.
Why he was nominated
The Bundesliga explained on their website why Boniface was one of six players who will compete for the award.
There was a bit more context to the nomination with the latest Super Eagles invitee clearly posting some league-topping numbers.
"Bayer Leverkusen summer signing Boniface registered more shots than any other Bundesliga player in August - 14," the league posted on their website.
"On only the second matchday alone, against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Nigerian fired off 11 attempts on Jonas Omlin's goal. That is as many as Kane managed across Matchdays 1 and 2."
The Nigerian superstar is not all about goals as he also showed his creative side while not shying away from his defensive duties off the ball.
"Boniface's sheer hard work has left a great impression too: his 54 challenges contested are the highest in the Bundesliga. His fierce pressing has helped him win 43 per cent of them." Bundesliga added.
Others nominated
Despite his impressive numbers and form, Boniface will face real competition for the awards from some top quality players.
Bayern Munich's Harry Kane, Benjamin Henrichs, Alphonso Davies, Jonas Wind, and Kevin Behrens are players he has to contain with.
