In the recent ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Court, Justice Moses Ugo made a notable statement regarding the allegations surrounding the February 25, 2023, presidential election. The Justice was firm in his assertion that if any form of results manipulation had taken place, it was in favor of Peter Obi and the Labour Party, not against them.
The tribunal has previously dismissed several petitions filed by Peter Obi and the Labour Party against President Bola Tinubu's victory. One of the most significant among them was the petition surrounding alleged irregularities during the election. Obi, representing the Labour Party, had argued that there were discrepancies and manipulations that skewed the election results against him.
However, Justice Ugo clarified that the Labour Party's candidate, Peter Obi, failed to substantiate his claims of electoral irregularities. Upon close examination of the evidence presented, the court found peculiarities suggesting that the few manipulations that may have occurred were actually in Obi's favor. Notably, there was evidence of ballot papers from the southern part of Nigeria filled using corrective pins, indicating possible tampering.
The revelations made by Justice Ugo further cement the court's decision to strike out all of Obi's petitions against President Tinubu. It's clear from the ruling that the allegations made by the Labour Party were not sufficiently backed by concrete evidence, leading to the upholding of President Tinubu's election victory.
