Manchester United could move for Championship left back

Manchester United could move for Championship left back

Manchester United are being linked with a move to sign Leicester City defender Luke Thomas following Luke Shaw's injury.

Shaw has picked up a muscle problem and could miss around three months if the injury is as bad as feared.

Tyrell Malacia remains out of action too and Alvaro Fernandez isn't seen as being Premier League-ready.

That means we have seen a number of rumours surrounding a potential left back signing ahead of the transfer deadline.

Marcos Alonso, Sergio Reguilon, Marc Cucurella, Nicolas Tagliafico and Leonardo Spinazzola are just some of the names touted.

Now there is another name in the mix - but it would involve United shopping in the Championship.

The Daily Mail report that Leicester City defender Luke Thomas could be targeted by United to cover for Shaw's injury.

It's stated that Leeds United have asked about signing Thomas but that move is somewhat doubtful.

Leicester are reluctant to let Thomas join a direct Championship rival and it's suggested that he does have Premier League interest.

MORE UNITED STORIES

United are weighing up a number of potential short-term solutions at left back and Thomas is suggested as a player who may now 'come into the reckoning'.

Thomas is allegedly waiting to see the Premier League offers on the table before pushing for a Leeds move, so there is some time for United to weigh up a deal.

Hard to see Thomas being Manchester United's left back solution

Thomas hasn't featured for Leicester this season and doesn't appear to be in Enzo Maresca's immediate plans at the King Power Stadium.

The 22-year-old showed some potential in the Premier League before and has now played 85 times for Leicester.

The other names on the list seem so much more appealing though; the likes of Reguilon and Cucurella have lost their way a little but certainly have attacking qualities whilst Tagliafico has already excelled under Erik ten Hag at Ajax.

Thomas would almost certainly be the cheapest of the left backs linked but going from unused substitute at Leicester in the Championship to starting for Manchester United just doesn't sound likely.

Thomas is still a name to keep tabs on but the rumoured move to Leeds seems more realistic than joining Ten Hag's United side.
