Tobi Amusan got the love and support of Nigerians worldwide despite losing her world title at the World Championships in Budapest.
Amusan finished sixth in the women's 100m Hurdles final in 12.62s, a far cry from her world title-winning performance at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon.
The 26-year-old ran under pressure as the reigning champion and the hopes of millions of Nigerians to get a medal. Unfortunately, she couldn't hit the maximum speed gear that saw her win the world title last year.
Jamaica's Danielle Williams was the surprise winner, as she reclaimed her world title from 2015 in a Season's Best (SB) of 12.43s (-0.2), edging Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in 12.44s for silver, while Keni Harrison settled for the bronze medal in 12.46s.
Despite losing the title and not getting a medal, Nigerians aren't disappointed but instead have directed positive vibes Amusan's way, proclaiming that the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be her moment of glory again.
Others also provided understanding that her preparations already were deterred coming for the championship because of her alleged Anti Doping Rule Violation case, which she was cleared just two days before the start of Budapest, and her mental state wasn't at maximum percent.
In all, Nigerians showed they can be massively supportive of their national heroine in good and bad times, and their World Record holder will be back sooner than later.
