Napoli forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia went to great lengths to ensure he would get to play with Osimhen this season
After an unforgettable season playing alongside Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen, Napoli's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia did something incredible over the summer to ensure he remained with the Partenopei into the new season.
Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen, Napoli's deadly duo
Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen struck up a lethal partnership in Serie A for Napoli in the Georgian's first season, helping the Partenopei to their first Scudetto in 33 years with some incredible performances.
The duo combined for 38 goals and 14 assists and were the clear driving force behind Napoli's success, and while the club's president, Aurelio de Laurentiis, did all he could to ensure they were retained by the Partenopei, Kvaratskhelia also played his part.
The Georgian gifted Osimhen six assists during the Serie A campaign, the most of any duo in the league and also did his part to ensure that they would be playing together for at least another season after turning down a mouth-watering offer from Premier League side Newcastle.
Kvaratskhelia turns down lucrative offer
After just one season with Napoli, Kvaratskhelia was on the radar of many top European clubs including Newcastle, who wanted to make a marquee signing after qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
According to Italian news outlet Il Matino, the Magpies were ready to multiply Kvaratskhelia's modest €1.2 million by more than six-fold in a bid to get the Georgia international to St James' Park, but the winger rejected the offe, and was only keen on improving his contract with Napoli.
Napoli and Kvaratskhelia are yet to finalise a new deal, which will significantly increase his salary, given his importance from last season, but both parties are believed to be close to an agreement.
